Andrew Russell McEnhimer Jr., 72, of Chesterfield, Virginia passed away on July 20, 2024.
He was born in Rocky Mount, VA in 1951 to the late Andrew Russell Sr. and the late Lucille McEnhimer. Andrew attended school at Gap Branch School, Truevine Elementary, Lee M. Waid School, and Franklin County High School before studying finance at Hampton Institute (Hampton University) where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Accounting. Shortly after graduating, Andrew passed his CPA exam on his first attempt, and enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University where he obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration. He worked many accounting jobs before finding a 30+ year career at Phillip Morris as an accountant.
Andrew was passionate about his family, work ethic, education, politics, and helping anyone in need in a sustainable way. He was an active member of many organizations including the NAACP, National Association of Black Accountants (NABA, Inc.) Democratic Party, and Chesterfield County Airport Board. He was quick to make new acquaintances and friends and establish common ground through conversation with anyone. In everything he did, he was thinking about the betterment of others, versus the easy path for himself. He was opinionated, yet understanding, certain, yet willing to listen, knowledgeable, yet willing to learn more, and righteous, but not without faults. He believed in hard work, finishing the job, and, most importantly, leaving the world a better place for all.
Andrew was preceded in passing by his mother and father Andrew and Lucille, and brother, Leroy. He is survived by his wife Bessie Yvonne McEnhimer, his sons Andrew III (Charlette), Shaun (Jenna), Brandon, and daughter Cassandra Witcher as well as 14 grandchildren: Andrew IV, LaDawna, Crystal, Monique, Hayley, Camryn, Kenleigh, Rylan, Jade, Shaun, Simone, Shae, Christian, Ta’Qyra. He is also survived by his brother Connell (Gale), sisters Carolyn Witcher (Mearl), Bertha Washington (Mervin), Sylvia Hawkins (Kevin), Sharon McEnhimer, and Sandra Gale Mallory (Dennis), as well as a host of family and friends.
Let us celebrate the life of Andrew McEnhimer Jr. by hugging our loved ones close, thinking of our families and others first before ourselves, and doing what is right before doing what is easy.
