Obituary
On June 4, 2024 the windows of Heaven opened up and Matilda Arnelia Penn went home to live with lord. She was born December 3, 1964 to Lawrence A. Penn, Sr. and Myrtle Young Penn,
Matilda graduated from John Tyler University School of Mortuary where she became a licensed Mortician. Her education also included certification as a Massage Therapist. She was also a pharmacy tech, a CNA at Martinsville Hospital and substitute teacher for Henry County Public Schools.
She loved quilting, crocheting and all types of crafts,
Matilda was preceded in death by: her son, Douglas Lashon Penn; parents, Lawrence Penn, Sr. and Myrtle Young Penn; and one brother, John Vernon Staples.
She member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Fieldale, VA.
She leaves to cherish her memories: granddaughter, Ayanna Dashan Penn of the home; a daughter-in-law, Latoya Woods, goddaughter, Demetria Hairston Brooks; four sisters, Frances Loretta Staples of Bowie, MD, Joan Delois (Cecil, Sr.)
Smith of Hampton, VA, Myrtle Elaine (John, Sr) Rumley of Chattanooga, TN, and Rochelle Denise Cook of Fieldale, VA; one brother, Lawrence Alphonso (Lois) Penn, Jr. of Martinsville, VA; one aunt Lucy Leath of Martinsville, VA. She is also survived by one nieces, two nephews and host of aunts, uncles cousins, other relatives and friends.
