Mozelle Alice Witcher was born on January 5, 1921, to
the union of the late Elijah and Exie Witcher in Penhook, Virginia.
Mozelle received her education in the Franklin County Public
Schools. She professed her faith in Christ and joined Greater Mt.
Parrish Missionary Baptist Church in Penhook, Virginia at an early
age. She remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health
declined, participating in the choir, Sunday School and the Culinary
Committee.
Mozelle, who cherished her roles as a loving wife, mother, and
grandmother, had a passion for gardening, flowers and canning.
She had a generous spirit and often welcomed visitors into her
home, ensuring that everyone was well-fed. Mozelle consistently
demonstrated unwavering love and affection towards all individuals
in her life, showing unconditional love to her family, including her
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her nieces and
nephews were equally cherished and she delighted in the special bond
she shared with her “bag lady” and “butternut” niece, as well as a greatgrandchild. who thoughtfully reminded her of daily necessities such
as milk, juice, water and coffee. As Mozelle humorously referenced,
“Everyone Loves Raymond.”
In addition to her parents, Mozelle was preceded in death by her
husband, Connie William Witcher; three sons, Otis (Caretha)
Witcher, Melvin (Buddy) Witcher and Jackie Witcher; one grandson,
Albert Campbell; four brothers, Melvin Witcher, Alvesta Witcher,
Luther Witcher and Willie Witcher; and five sisters, Eleanor Muse,
Beatrice Witcher, Mattie Lemon, Bessie Cobbs and Yvonne Dennis.
She is survived by one son, Jerry (Lenora) Witcher of Penhook,
Virginia; seven daughters, Edna Campbell, Erma Wade, Cecelia
McGhee, Alma (Zebedee) Cook, Connie (James) Waddy, Linda
(Byron) Witcher and Cecile (Nelson) Moore, all of Penhook,
Virginia; three brothers, Thelman Witcher of Salem, Virginia,
Buddy Witcher of Jacksonville,North Carolina, and Bobby Witcher
of Penhook, Virginia; three sisters, Ola Holland of Rocky Mount,
Virginia, Juanita James of Penhook and Sandra Preston of Boones
Mill, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Diane Witcher of Columbus, Ohio;
one former daughter-in-law, Juanita Witcher of Rocky Mount; twenty
grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; seven great-greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
Special extended family members include Herbert Townes, Sandra
Powell and Gloria Frances, who have always been considered her
adopted children. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends
