On Wednesday evening, September 18, 2024, Quintin McJaron Mitchell departed his earthly body to be present with the Lord.
He was born September 12, 1989 in the Star City of Roanoke, Virginia to his parents David Jerome Mitchell and the late Polly Ann Martin Mitchell, and was their only child.
Quintin attended public schools in Franklin County, receiving his diploma in 2007.
During his early years in school, Quintin met one of his two best friends, while attending a Grandparents lunch with his grandparents, Bishop & Mrs. J.H.E. Mitchell. Noticing that another young man was sitting alone, because his grandfather, Bishop C.W. Hairston, had to work that day,
Quintin’s grandparents invited the young man, whose name was Andrew, to sit with them. That encounter bonded the two boys, who became life-long friends and brothers.
Since at least two years old, Quintin began showing signs of being a musician, when he started picking up everything from pencils to forks and spoons, and then proceeded to play on the furniture, while keeping perfect rhythm in his effort to make music. Even after receiving his first junior drum set one Christmas, it was clear that God was doing something special with this young man.
When his uncle John, a drummer, assumed the role of director of the Mount Calvary choir, after the passing of their director, Sister Jackie Mitchell, Quintin started a dedicated journey, as both the drummer for the choir and the Disciples in Song. Years later, as Quintin’s skills increased, he served, not only his church, but as many as he could, with a spirit that was humble and a demeanor that was laid back, most recently lending his gift to the Tabernacle of Praise Church of Christ.
Quintin loved God, his family, and his friends, and nothing meant more to him than his church, and loving those he cared about.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Mrs. Polly Ann Martin Mitchell, his grandparents, Bishop & Mrs. J.H.E Mitchell, and Mr. & Mrs. John L. Martin, his aunt and uncle Darlene and Kevin Phifer.
Those who shall continue to hold special memories of Quintin are his loving father, David Jerome Mitchell of the home; his god-sister, Robyn Mitchell, of Roanoke, VA; his uncles Jeffery Mitchell, and John (Kena) Mitchell of Rocky Mount; several close cousins Keenan and Jonathan Mitchell, Nick Martin, Dmarquis Boben, and Leon Mitchell, all of Rocky Mount; his great uncles Marvin (Mae) Mitchell and Dallas (Katherine) Mitchell of Rocky Mount; his aunt Teressia Hairston of Martinsville, VA; -his godmother Claudette Legans of Rocky Mount, two life-long friends, Andrew Hairston of Rocky Mount, and Brittany Lane of Auburn, New York; a close friend She’lae Bailey of Erie, PA; and a host of family and friends, too many to mention, including within the Mount Calvary Church family, the Mitchell, Martin, Turner, and Hairston families.
